Our HistoryWhat makes us who we are
Redeeming Love Fellowship began in 1989 in the log cabin home of Robert “Rev” Smallman in Steuben, NY. “Rev” was a former Methodist minister and he and his wife Ruby graciously hosted a Wednesday night bible study in their homes. The group grew and filled their home to overflowing each week. There was a strong sense of God’s presence and a desire to see a pentecostal church in the Holland Patent area. At the time Rev’s son Ron and his wife Cherie were serving as associate pastor’s at Calvary Gospel church in New York Mills under the leadership of Pastor Bernard Evans. Calvary Gospel was experiencing significant growth with a large influx of immigrants and Pastor Ron was influential in that transition. The group in Steuben asked Pastor Ron and Cherie to come and pastor their group. Calvary Gospel graciously released Pastor Ron and helped launch Redeeming Love Fellowship in the summer of 1989.
God moved quickly and a building became available on Canterbury Hill Rd in Rome NY. There we experienced the renewal movement of the early 90’s and enjoyed a wonderful time of growth. After some time the building was no longer adequate to meet our needs. We explored several options at that time and ended up moving to the old Burgamo East Monastery building near the Walmart distribution center. There God continued to move and many were saved, baptized, and filled with the Holy Spirit. In that time God continued to speak to the vision of having a worship center in the Holland Patent area. A campaign began to buy land and build a worship center on route 365. Over the next several years many people gave sacrificially of their time, talent and treasure to build our current worship center. During the campaign and build we relocated buildings to the Christian Missionary Alliance building on Route 26 in Lee Center, but continued the work on the new building.
In 2003 the building was complete and we had our first worship service in our own building. The stories are too numerous to tell of God’s miraculous provision throughout the entire process. It was not easy but we rejoice with the blessing of the Lord.
After 19 years of service Pastor Ron and Cherie felt the Lord leading them to relocate near some of their family in Virginia Beach. At that time a transition plan was put in place to install Pastor Richard “Woodly” Zacek. Pastor Woodly had been serving as the youth pastor of the church and through that time the Lord confirmed the choice to the membership. Today Pastor Woodly and his wife Shelly serve as the lead pastor of Redeeming Love.
